Davis hoping home advantage can pay dividends
Steve Davis knows that it could be a pivotal week in our quest to remain in League One but he is solely focussed on getting the three points against Notts County tomorrow night. The Alex will be looking to build on a superb 3-1 win at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday with another good performance against Shaun Derry’s side. Tomorrow night’s visitors will also be looking for back-to-back wins following their own morale boosting 4-1 win over Carlisle United at the weekend.
Crewe have only enjoyed back-to-back wins on two occasions this season and Davis is targeting another double to vastly improve our League position.
Ahead of the visit of the Magpies, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is being billed as a big week and we know that with the games running out we need to get those points in the bag as soon as we can.
“We are playing two teams at home this week, who are in a similar position to ourselves, so we know how important these games are. They are fighting for their lives, as we are.
“We are only looking at one fixture at a time and know that Notts County will be difficult. They are fired up after their win on Saturday and so are we after we won at Gillingham. We both need points so it should be a pretty open game with both teams going for it.
“We have two home games and with our fans behind us we want to use that to our advantage. What we haven’t been able to do enough this season is to get those back-to-back wins. We haven’t been able to follow up one good performance and result with another one.
“We played well at Port Vale and got a great result but then went to Stevenage and lost, although I thought we played well enough that night to have got something from it. It didn’t quite drop for us that night and we couldn’t get that goal we needed.
in front of our own fans.” Steve added: “That has been our problem and we haven’t done it enough, but this week gives us a chance to do that
