Young Alex midfielder hoping to face Italy in Euro qualifier
Crewe Alexandra midfielder Liam Nolan is hoping to be capped at Under-21 level for the first time as Northern Ireland take on Italy tomorrow evening. Nolan joined up with the Northern Ireland squad at the weekend after playing 90 minutes for Crewe's first team in a 1-1 draw with Swindon.
The club’s young midfielder, who has started the last two games for Crewe following injuries to George Evans and Abdul Osman, has originally on stand-by but was drafted into the squad due to a couple of injuries.
Jim Magilton’s Under-21 side take on the fancied Italians in a European Championship qualifier at Mourneview Park in Lurgan.
Although Nolan has been called into the Under-21 squad on previous occasions, he is yet to win his first cap at that particular level.
