"Mistakes Have Cost Us"

Steve Davis gives his reaction from London Road after 4-2 defeat

Steve Davis says his side showed plenty of spirit to remain in the game this afternoon but was frustrated after mistakes allowed the home to get back in the game. Crewe had taken an early lead through Chuks Aneke but conceded a poor penalty within a minute and the same happened in the second half after Aneke had drawn us level with a well taken finish. It 3-2 to Posh within two minutes as Danny Swanson fired them back into the lead. With Crewe pushing on looking for an equaliser, Conor Washington finished us off with a fine solo goal.

I thought we could have got something from the game because we were in the game for long periods but we didn't build on the good start we made or when we drew level. We didn't hold onto our lead long enough nor when we got back on level terms. The difference was that we made individual and collective mistakes and didn't have long enough to build on our momentum.

"We talked about making a good start and making them a bit nervous at home and we managed to do that through Chuks's wonderful goal. He took it early and caught their goalkeeper out. We has bent it lovely into the top corner and it was just what we were looking for, but the lead lasted for a minute.

"Harry (Davis) should have done better with his defending there. We got caught out with a little dummy and gave the penalty away. We then concede a goal after Pogba had a shot blocked and they have broken up the other end and Ajose has slotted it in.

"We should have defended that breakaway goal a lot better as well because we were outnumbered. I don't know where our protective midfielders were on that occasion. We were 2-1 behind and I didn't think we deserved that.

"We had some words with them at half time and we came out fighting. This group has certainly got a lot of spirit that is for sure. We got back into the game with a well worked goal and it was another great finish from Chuks. It was a great turn and a fantastic finish. He was top class Chuks and didn't really deserve to be on the losing side.

After we had equalised, we had a chance to go ahead through Pogba but we conceded quickly again. It was another mistake and we didn't have any time to build on what we had done to get level. We couldn't take advantage of trying to make them nervous.

"We pushed on and threw on Vadaine trying to get that third goal and when we did at the end, Washington has secured the points for them."
