Steve says players can take a lot of positives from encouraging performance

Steve Davis has encouraged his ‘players to get their heads up’ after a much better performance against Coventry City at the weekend. The Alex were unfortunate to lose the game 2-1 thanks to Callum Wilson’s brace but the Alex manager stressed there were plenty of positives to take from a much improved performance.

Crewe head to Crawley this weekend, aiming to achieve the three points that would make a massive difference at the bottom of League One, and boss Steve Davis says that spirits will be lifted during the week.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Most of the players would not have experienced the ups and downs of football. There are a good and bad days and some of them will be experiencing that for the first time. That is how it is.

“The players worked hard on Saturday and didn’t get what they deserved for their efforts. It was disappointing because we deserved something from the performance.

“The players were down in the dressing room afterwards, as you would expect, but the first thing I told them to do was to get their heads up. I didn’t want them looking at the floor and told them to get their heads up because it was a very creditable performance.

He added: “We won’t be subdued. That game has gone and there are a lot of positives to take from it because it was a much better standard of performance. We want to emulate that effort and commitment at Crawley and give ourselves a lift.”
