Get Oldham Out Of The System

Steve says players have to be put disappointing display behind them

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says his players want to get Saturday’s poor performance against Oldham out of the system as quickly as possible.

Crewe head for Kent this weekend hoping to produce a better display against Peter Taylor’s Gills, than they were able to in the 1-1 draw against Oldham on Saturday. Crewe had to rely on an injury-time headed from Harry Davis to steal a point from a game that looked like slipping away in the second half.

Davis was as honest as ever in his appraisal of the performance from the weekend.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Everyone was frustrated and disappointed by the way we played against Oldham. We know we have got to do better than that.

“We didn’t play well but we managed to get a point. We wanted to win the game and we let each other down. I thought we started pretty well for the first fifteen minutes but we then lost our way and lost that momentum. It was frustrating and the players were disappointed in the dressing room that we hadn’t performed in front of the home fans.

“We wanted to win the game because we were aware of the importance of it but I was pleased that they showed some character, kept going and managed to get a point.”
