Key duo stepping up their fitness after long spells out
Young Crewe Alexandra stalwarts Max Clayton and Ryan Colclough look set to return to first team action before the end of the season to help the Railwaymen in their quest to avoid relegation from Sky Bet League One.
Clayton has been out of action since November with a foot injury, whilst Colclough has spent time in the treatment room with a hernia problem. But now both players have upped their rehabilitation with intense fitness work and could soon re-join their fellow squad in full training.
The return of Clayton and Colclough, both 19, may provide the attacking impetus needed to fire the Alex to safety and will be a big plus for Steve Davis to have back in his arsenal.
The manager told Crewe Alex Player: “They are getting there gradually. Ryan has been out about eight weeks now which is quite a long time for a double hernia. They’re normally back between four to six weeks, so he’s been out a bit longer than we thought.
“I don’t know how far he is away from training but he’s continuing with his rehabilitation. He’s running and twisting, turning and striking the ball, I don’t think he’s far away from joining in.
“Max, I’m not too sure about. Again, he’s not getting any discomfort from it or any pain, so I think they’re both pushing on well and pushing each other but I’ve no real dates on when they’ll be back.”
