Chairman: "A Great Honour"

17 March 2014

John Bowler speaks about his award

Club Chairman John Bowler has this afternoon admitted he was incredibly honoured to receive 'Contribution to League Football Award' at the Football League Awards in London last night.

The club chairman was the recipient of the Contribution to League Football Award - the highest honour bestowed by the board of the Football League and in an exclusive interview with Crewe Alex Player this afternoon spoke of his pride.

Mr Bowler told Player: “It was a great occasion and a great honour for me. It is very gratifying and shows that the way Crewe Alexandra operates within the Football League is recognised.

"The Football League Awards are slightly different to others, with a lot of awards they recognise the players and the managers. But it was very evident from last night that the Football League awards look to recognise people behind the scenes.

"We often say that the footballers are the star of the show but people often don’t appreciate the dedicated staff that are the backbone of the club. Last night they were recognised and I was one of them.

Of course Mr Bowler joined Dario Gradi in receiving this particular award, something that once again made him proud.

“I think we have got the record that since this award started we are the only club to have had two people receive the award.

“So it was a great accolade last night and I am very honoured by it.”
