Boss Challenges Waters

7 March 2014

Steve says Waters could make a real difference to us in the final 12 games

Steve Davis says that the impact made by last weekend’s substitutes Vadaine Oliver and Billy Waters has given him food for thought ahead of this weekend’s trip to Peterborough United. Oliver scored a superbly taken equaliser to salvage a point against Swindon Town last weekend whilst young Waters added more creativity and drive from a wide position.

Boss Steve Davis has suggested that Waters still has to prove that he can make the step up to League One football and play in successive matches, but wants the 19-year-old to prove that he can make a real difference in the final 12 games of the season.

Davis told the club’s official web-site: “Billy came on against Swindon and helped change the game. He has made an impact for us and it is just a question of him proving he can do that from the start of a game and then sustaining it.

“He is still young and young players can struggle for that consistency over a succession of games. Like all young players that is the unknown and you only find out when you give them that chance.

“If that opportunity for him comes tomorrow then we will have to wait and see.”
