After More 'Port Vale' Displays

13 March 2014

Davis knows that his players can handle pressure as we go into run-in.

Steve Davis is confident that his Crewe Alexandra side can produce more ‘Port Vale performances’ in the end of the season run-in to make sure we move away from the danger zone. Crewe host Lee Johnson’s Oldham Athletic this Saturday in what could be a vital fixture with both sides aiming to avoid the drop into League Two.

Davis has gone on record to suggest that we have ’ten cup finals left’ but he remains confident that his players can play under that level of pressure and can repeat the performance that saw us win 3-1 at Vale Park in our recent local derby.

Steve told crewealex.net: “All managers are looking for that real consistency. We have produced some really good performances with everyone playing well but have then not followed it up with another one.

“All you can ask the players to do is focus on playing well and making sure they look after their own performance and come out on top in their one-on-one situations. If we can do that as individuals then collectively we will be fine. The result will take care of itself if that happens.

“We had everyone playing 8, 9 out of ten against Port Vale and we deservedly got our rewards that day. They don’t come more pressurised than Port Vale away for us and they came through it fantastically well. That is what we are looking for. They have shown that they can play under pressure.

“Sometimes you need a bit of luck to go with that and we certainly didn’t get that at Walsall on Tuesday night but if we can play like that again, work hard for each other and take our chances better then we will be fine.

“Although we were disappointed not to have won the game in the end and the position we were in, there were still a lot of positives to take from the way we played and the way we defended for large parts of the game.”
