Mathias Pogba enjoys the World Cup fever in Brazil as his brother gets set to represent France
Crewe Alexandra striker Mathias Pogba has told Crewe Alex Player that he could not be any prouder than seeing his younger brother Paul represent France in the forthcoming World Cup. The World Cup in Brazil kicks off later tonight with the host nation taking on Croatia in San Paulo.
France kick off their own campaign against Honduras on Monday and Mathias will be a proud observer as his brother Paul is set to star for the 1998 World Cup winners.
Ahead of flying out to Brazil to watch his brother in action, Pogba told Crewe Alex Player: “It is not every day you can go to Brazil to watch your brother play in a World Cup. I want to enjoy the occasion and support my brother.
“I will be out there for France’s opening two games and it is something I am looking forward to. I am very proud of him and all he has achieved. It will great to watch him play for the senior team after he recently played for the Under-20s in their version of the World Cup.
“You never know with France. It depends which team turns up. You are never sure which team will turn up. If they are in the right mood they could go far and reach the final. If they are not then they could go out in the group.
“I think they will get through the group and then who knows what will happen. It is the World Cup and anything can happen and that is what makes it special.
“They have an easier group but those smaller nations will be giving their all against France. If France do not concentrate or take them lightly then anything can happen. I remember when they played Senegal and everyone was saying it was their first World Cup blah blah blah and they ended up beating them 1-0 and France didn’t get out of the group. “
