Callum Saunders says he was only interested in signing for Crewe this summer

Callum Saunders says that potential interest from elsewhere was never an issue when it came to committing his future to Crewe Alexandra. The prolific youth striker has exclusively told Crewe Alex Player that ‘he always wanted to stay at Crewe because he has grown up here.”

The Wales Under-19 International has quickly followed his fellow Academy graduates by signing his first professional contract with us. Crewe Alexandra Football has now acquired the full compliment of scholars we wished to sign to extended professional contracts.

Saunders, who has scored goals throughout his time in the Academy said: “I’m really happy to sign at Crewe. I’ve been here since I was six and I know that if I’m good enough now then I’ll be able to play in the first team – that’s always been the goal.

“It’s a help that so many of us young lads have signed, it might be easier to fit in. We’ve all been here since we were very young so it’s nice to sign with them.

“Because I’d scored quite a few goals for the U18’s this season there was a bit of interest, but I always wanted to stay at Crewe because I’ve been here all my life. I know everyone here, and all my mates have signed. I always wanted to sign, and luckily I have now.

“Hopefully by the end of the season I’ll be pushing for the first team. Steve (Davis) said I’m going to be playing in the U21’s to start with, so hopefully I’ll get a few goals and play well and then try to push on for the first team. “
