Boss says he has not fielded any calls in regards to his captain or anyone else
Steve Davis has revealed to the club’s official web-site that it has been ‘very quiet’ in regards to interest in his own players. The Alex boss says he has not fielded any calls with managers or agents in regards to the availability of his players, but he fears that it could still be early days.
Club captain and double Player-of-the-Season Matt Tootle has been hailed as the next potential one to move on and Davis fears that it could be another deadline day transfer.
Crewe lost previous captain Ashley Westwood on deadline day in 2012 after he had actually started the season playing for us. Westwood moved to Aston Villa after Crewe had initially rejected an offer from Swansea City. It all happened very quickly.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I haven’t had any calls in regards to our players. It has been quiet but it often can be at this stage of the closed season. Managers and players are away and agents are in no hurry to sort of deals yet.
“I’ve had nothing and that includes any interest in Matt. He will be back for pre-season training like everyone else.
“It could be that someone will come in late for him. It could be another deadline day one with him. Westy started the season with us before he went to Aston Villa late on deadline day and that could happen again with Matt.
The boss added: “I am not overly concerned because I know I have a ready-made replacement here if Matt was to move. “
