Phillips: "I Had An Amazing Time."

Steve Phillips on his time at Crewe Alexandra

Steve Phillips is currently aiming to complete yet another mammoth cycle ride to Paris to raise money for two tremendous causes but before he jumped on his bike and headed south, the club’s former goalkeeper spoke to Crewe Alex Player.

In an exclusive interview with the club’s in house video service, the veteran goalkeeper told us: “I’ve really enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve had a lot more highs than lows that’s for sure.

“My time at this football club will be right up amongst the best time’s I’ve had in my 20 year career. Keeping two clean sheets in two Wembley finals was brilliant, and winning was even better, and then staying up last year too.

“I’ve been in a bit of pain the last three of four seasons with my shoulder. Waking up every morning in pain isn’t very nice and then having to work through that pain. I’m enjoying my time off and I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

I’m not going to give up football, I’m going to see what it’s like in the non-league, where I started off, so it will be nice to end that way as well. I think I’ve got a few seasons left in me in the non-league arena, if I enjoy it enough.

”“Crewe Alex has been a big part of my life because I never had to move away from Bristol until I came to this football club. I came here with the reputation of being a decent goalkeeper and the backing the fans have given me has been nothing short of astounding.
