Max ‘Torn’ Over Future

25 June 2014

Collins insists Clayton’s loyalty has never been in question

Max Clayton’s Crewe Alexandra future has been very much hanging in the balance this summer, with a fresh contract being offered to the 19-year-old forward who is taking his time to assess his options.

Coach James Collins has never questioned Clayton’s loyalty to the club whom he supports, but instead insists it’s a conundrum for the youngster to decide what is best for his future in this now crucial next step.

“Max has been here since he was six – people forget that.” Collins told crewealex.net.

“You talk about loyalty, and he has been loyal to this club. He could have left a lot of times and gone to some very big clubs, but never has.

“He’s a Crewe supporter, and whatever decision he does make will be what he thinks is right for his career – whether that’s a fresh start, or whether that is sign here for another year or so.

“I think that he’s torn. The boy loves the club, he likes the people here and he’s got his friends here, but he will also be getting advice to say that maybe he needs a new challenge. I think that’s why it’s taking so long, because he’s so torn between what he’s going to do.

“Whatever decision he makes I wish him well and he has shown good loyalty to this club regardless.”
