Boss delighted after Wales Under-19 starlet Callum Saunders last to sign up

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is delighted that young striker Callum Saunders has committed his future to the club. Saunders returned from International duty with Wales Under-19 to pen a three-year deal with the club.

Saunders was a prolific goal scorer for the club’s Under-18s, Youth Team and Under-21 teams and his form saw him called up for the UEFA Under-19 European Championship Tournament in Portugal.

Steve Davis told crewealex.net: “We are all delighted that all the young lads have signed up now. Callum was the last to sign because he had been away with Wales.

“I met with him and his father Dean before I went away and Callum joined up with Wales and he knew that he would get opportunities here with us. He has been here since the age of seven and knows what the club is all about.

“He is an ambitious lad and he knows if he can progress like he is doing then he will play in our first team. He knows he has to work on his physique and become stronger and that is what he is doing.

“Callum is a natural goalscorer. He is certainly in good company with his dad. Those type of strikers are very rare nowadays. They might only get one or two chances a game but always seem to get a goal for you.

He added: “Callum is an exciting prospect, like a number of the young lads, and he is heading in the right direction.”
