Decision Time Looming On Byron

10 June 2014

Boss says Byron will have to come to decision on his future in the next week

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that winger Byron Moore has until early next week to make his mind up over his future. The Alex boss gave the 25-year-old forward a month to decide on whether to extend his stay with the club and the deadline is approaching ahead of the squad’s return to the club for fitness testing on 16th June.

Davis remains hopeful that Moore will decide to re-sign for the club, but says it is important he knows where he stands so he can step up his search for a replacement.

Davis has revealed that he has had no contact with Byron or his representative but expects to before next week’s deadline.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I haven’t heard from Byron or his agent yet. We have written to him and he knows we would like to keep him.

“We gave him a month to make his mind up. That is enough time and he will have to come to a decision next week. He is a free agent and I am sure he is looking to see what offers he has on the table but we made it clear that if he sees his future away from here that we can move on.

“Byron is a player of great potential. We have been saying that for a few years now. He is 25 now and he still has time to reach it. He has all the attributes but is still learning and developing. We hope that will be with us.

“I’ve always said that if Byron’s goals record was better than it is, he would have moved on a few years ago. As a winger, in the modern game, he has to score more goals. He hasn’t really been able o do that. He scored 10 goals in the season we were promoted from League Two. If he could score 10 goals in League One then I would be sure he would be able to play higher.”
