Davis Plays Waiting Game

9 June 2014

Davis and staff working behind the scenes to line-up potential summer signings

Steve Davis has recently returned from a short-break in Cyprus and has continued to line-up potential summer signings for the club. The Alex boss admits that he won’t be rushed into signing players. He will instead take more time in making sure he gets the right players possessing the right characters into the club.

Davis did most of his transfer policy as early as possible last season with only Anthony Grant and after a long, drawn out process Bradden Inman arriving late on in the summer.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is a waiting game at the moment for a lot of clubs and a lot of players. I know some clubs have done their business early, as we did last season, but I want to be sure this year that we know as much as we can about the players.

“We want to know what is happening with our own players yet because we make any decisive moves.

“I have and Neil (Baker) has continued to speak to players and make our interest known. It is all about lining up potential players and seeing if they are keen to come here when the time comes.

“Players are paid up until the end of the June and some until the end of July, so they are never in too much of a rush. If they are going out of contract then their agents will wait for their best offer. They will see which clubs come in and that they are entitled to do that.

He added: “What I will do is be as patient as they are and make sure we can get the best ones in we can.”
