Chuks Had That Hunger

Boss hopes we can be option for released Arsenal starlet

Steve Davis has reiterated his desire to sign Chuks Aneke on a permanent deal following his release from Arsenal. Aneke finished last season as the club’s leading goalscorer with 17 goals after being converted into more of a deep lying centre-forward and although he appreciates he will face competition for his signature this summer, Davis is hopeful that Aneke’s determination to play games could see us at least in the running.

Recently Neil Baker hailed Aneke as ‘top of his priority list’ and Davis has only supported the views of his assistant manager.

Steve said: “Everyone knows how well Chuks has done for us over the last couple of seasons. He is bound to attract other interest and all we can do is make our interest known. We enjoyed having him and I’m sure he benefitted from being here with us.

“All we can do is wait and see what Chuks wants. That will be the decisive factor in the decision. Chuks’s agent was very good. He was keen for him to come here on loan and play some games. He only wanted what was best for Chuks.

“Chuks was the perfect example of a young player, who bought into what we do here and was determined to improve. He had that hunger to use this as a stage to showcase his talent and he did that over two seasons.”
