Steve says midfielder grew into influential figure as Crewe escaped the drop
Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has hailed the ‘brilliant’ Anthony Grant after the midfielder became one of our most influential players in the second half of the season. The summer signing from Stevenage lost his place in the first half of the campaign but his performances heading in 2014 later saw him named third in the Player-of-the-Season vote behind winner Matt Tootle and runner-up Chuks Aneke.
Davis admits that it took the former Chelsea trainee and Southend star to fit into the Crewe way of things but once he did, he grew in stature by having that extra responsibility amongst a young squad.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: ”It took Anthony a bit of time to adjust to the club and what we wanted him to do here, but he was brilliant for us in the second half of the season.
“He embraced that extra responsibility and he really helped us. He helped the team and helped us get out of trouble with his performances.
“I want those hungry types to come here, not just the ones who just come here to play a bit of football and not want to improve and get better.”
