Boss After Moore Replacement

16 June 2014

Steve Davis says he would like an out-and-out winger to replace the outgoing Byron Moore

Steve Davis says he will look to replace the out-going Byron Moore with another ‘natural winger’. Moore will leave the club this summer after amassing almost 300 first-team appearances and Davis will now step up his search for a replacement. The Alex boss admits that a fit-again Ryan Colclough would certainly fill the void and Davis can also call upon Mathias Pogba and Bradden Inman in wide areas.

The Alex boss has also admitted that young winger George Cooper could emerge over the coming season after he signed his first professional contract this summer.

The Crewe Alexandra boss told crewealex.net: “Byron made it known that he wanted a fresh challenge and has decided to move on. I don’t know where he will go, as I’ve had no dialogue with Byron or his agent since he decided to leave.

“Byron is our own natural winger and I would like to find another one if we can. We do have some wide players and a fit-again Ryan (Colclough) could certainly fill the role, although we think he will develop into a number 10 in time.

“Having Ryan back and fit would be like having a new signing and we also have Pogs and Brad who operate from the wing, but we could do with another one. A move out-and-out-winger is what we would be looking for.

“We also have George Cooper, who has done very well for the youth team on both wings. He is a player with great potential and could come through and emerge this season. I’m hoping there will be a few of the younger ones who can emerge this season.”
