Steve out to protect his players in remaining pre-season games after Grant scare
Steve Davis says that one of his most senior players, Anthony Grant, will be fine for this weekend’s meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers after he took a hefty knock to the head at Macclesfield on Tuesday evening. Grant lost consciousness for a brief spell and was immediately substituted in Crewe’s 1-0 defeat at the Moss Rose.
Grant was kicked in the head whilst on the floor and as a precaution he was immediately replaced by Liam Nolan.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Granty was out for around 30 seconds. He took a boot in the face whilst he was on the floor. I don’t think it was intentional from their lad but the referee didn’t see it.
“He was out for a short while and we were not about to take any risks with him. Rob (Sharp) made the call straight away and we took him off as a precaution. He was fine afterwards.
“We need Granty fit and ready for the 9th of August and won’t take any risks with any of our players in the pre-season games.”
