Boss says he will still play waiting game to make sure he signs the right players

Steve Davis believes that the summer transfer window will soon pick up, as players begin to try and get fixed up for pre-season matches. The Alex boss has only added the experienced Scott Shearer to his squad this closed season, but he has also offered professional terms to six Academy graduates to bolster his squad. The boss has more targets in mind as players begin to move.

Davis has been adamant all summer that he will only look to add players to his squad who will improve us and he will continue to play a waiting game to acquire the calibre of player he wants.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It has been relatively quiet but I have said for a while now that we won’t rush into things. We know what we want and what we need and we will play a waiting game for as long as possible.

“The agents and players have also been waiting and keeping their options open but now they are beginning to worry a bit and try and get themselves fixed up.

“The longer they go on, the more we have a chance because their wage demands will have to come down a bit. We have set our sights high and have been out searching for the ones we want.

“When you are offered a player over the phone, they are usually the ones we don’t want. We have been working hard on the ones we want to bring in.

“Some of the ones we have been tracking and talking to have not been fixed up yet. They are still available and we are still in with a shout. It will start to get busy and I’m sure my phone will get busier the closer we get to the new season.

“The longer it goes on, the more we are at an advantage because players and agents don’t want to going into the new season without being fixed up.”
