Billy Waters is hoping to convince the management that he is worth another senior start
19-year-old Billy Waters is hoping he can convince manager Steve Davis that is worthy of a starting place for the opening day of the season at Fleetwood. The local lad is looking to add to his one professional start against Peterborough last season and establish himself as a key member of the Crewe squad during the forthcoming season.
Waters scored his first pre-season goal in the 4-1 win at Nantwich on Sunday and has also been involved in a number of our friendly goals this season.
The modest teenager know there is room for improvement in his game but he is hoping his match winning capabilities will provide him with a chance to start the season.
Billy told Crewe Alex Player: “My aim is to give myself the best chance I can of starting the season in the line-up. I know I have to make an impression with my performances and become more reliable and hopefully the manager and staff will be able to see that improvement.
“It is a younger group this season and that has given everyone a chance to stake their claim. The competition for places is good and that has made this pre-season even more important.
“I was disappointed not to have scored at Norton because I had a few chances but I made some assists and managed to score at Nantwich, so I was very pleased with that because I know my role in the team is to create and score goals.
“A trip to Leek is never easy. It is always a difficult and competitive game and we have struggled there in the past, so we are determined to go there on Friday and put on a good performance.
“We then travel to Chester, the following day and that is a good experience. They have a nice ground, there should be a decent crowd there.”
