Shearer Signs Two-Year Deal

3 July 2014

Crewe complete the signing of experienced goalkeeper Scott Shearer

. Crewe Alexandra is delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Scott Shearer on a two-year-deal. The Glasgow-born Shearer becomes Steve Davis’s first major signing of the summer following on from the signing of winger John Johnston on a six-month deal

The vastly experienced goalkeeper completed a medical earlier today and will now challenge Ben Garratt for the number one spot. Scott was released by League One play-off winners Rotherham United at the end of the season after making 14 appearances in their promotion winning season. He lost his place due to the form of Adam Collin in the second half of the campaign.

The 6’3” stopper has amassed 341 appearances during his 14-year career and he is one of those rare goalkeepers to have registered a senior goal after scoring for his first club Albion against Queens Park back in February 2008.

Shearer has faced Crewe Alexandra for a selection of his former clubs and Alex fans may well remember him from his early days with Coventry City. He later competed for the number one at Bristol Rovers with Steve Phillips and also enjoyed loan spells at Rushden and Shrewsbury Town.

He later played alongside Mathias Pogba during a brief stint at Wrexham and has also played for Wycombe and Crawley.

Scott has an interest in developing his coaching and with work closely with our emerging Garratt as part of our first-team coaching staff.

The transfer is subject to FA and Football League clearance.
