Players Have Come Back In Good Shape

2 July 2014

Steve Davis is pleased with the level of fitness shown by his returning squad

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he has been pleased with the level of fitness his players have shown following their return to full-time training. The Alex players did return to the training camp base a couple of weeks ago for fitness assessment and the Crewe Alexandra boss is pleased with the results.

The Crewe Alexandra boss has changed things around this summer in relation to his training methods, with the players given a longer time off but returning earlier. Davis is targeting a much better start to the new season and is exploring every avenue to get the best out of his players.

The club’s training complex remained open for players to participate in fitness or weights sessions if they so wished, with many opting to come in at various times in between holidays.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The players have come back in good shape. They have worked hard with Andy (Franks) and the work has been pretty full-on over the last couple of weeks with their fitness work.

“It was tough going and will continue to be so but if the fitness is there then it will make things easier when the footballs come out.

“The players are now coming in before 9am to have what Andy is called an active half an hour of core strengthening. They then have breakfast together before we go to train at 10.30am.

“All the sessions over the next six weeks have been thoroughly prepared and it will be an important time for them all.”
