Steve Davis remains upbeat about bringing the right players in

Steve Davis says there will be ‘no knee jerk’ reaction to Crewe Alexandra’s patient approach to bringing in new players this summer. Goalkeeper Scott Shearer is the only player to join the club on a permanent deal thus far, but the Alex boss is adamant that there will be no panic buying after last season’s hit-and-misses.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We will only do what we think is right for us. There will be no knee jerk reaction here. We know what we have to bring in and have identified our targets.

“We will take our time because we want the right ones. We don’t have to go out and bring in 10-12 players. We only need two or three quality players to improve us. We are fortunate to have a strong academy here and supplement our squad that way.

“We have players such as George Ray, Liam Nolan, Ollie Turton and Billy Waters, who have to have that opportunity to play and show what they can do. That is the club ethos and I will continue to give them that chance.”
