Steve says loan option may be best bet to add real quality to his starting XI

Steve Davis says that signing talented youngsters on loan may be his best bet to improve his Crewe Alexandra team. The Alex boss has targeted a new goalkeeper, midfielder and forward this summer, as well as a natural winger to replace Byron Moore after he recently rejected the club’s offer of a new contract.

The Alex boss and his coaching staff have strong links with a host of Premier League and Championship clubs and he recently revealed that he has one player definitely lined up for a long loan spell. If that player will be allowed to train with us during pre-season remains to be seen as his parent club may elect him to train with them for a short spell.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The loan market could be the best way for us to bring in a talented young prospect that could make a difference to us. He would have to be ahead of our current young players and fill a possible gap there.

“That is what we have always tried to do with all our previous loan players and the majority of them have made a real difference to us. They have played their part in our success in League One and helping us remain in the division last season.

“I have been offered some players on loan and I will make a decision on them depending on what we can do.

Steve added: “It is possible that we will invite some trialists in as well. We have a trialist in from Everton, who is a winger and we will have a look at him. I will make a decision as quickly as I can on him for the benefit of the lad and for us.”
