Johnston Signs New Six-Month Deal

3 July 2014

Former Leek winger given more time to prove himself

Crewe Alexandra is delighted to announce that winger John Johnston has signed a new short-term contract with the club. The former Leek Town forward has been rewarded with a new six-month deal after impressing on an initial short-term arrangement last season.

Johnston’s impressive form for the Blues saw him secure a professional contract at Crewe in January, but he was later loaned back to the North Staffordshire side to help in their quest to win promotion out of the Northern Premier League. Unfortunately they lost 2-0 to Belper in the play-offs.

Johnston scored an impressive 12 goals in his 52 games last season and he also represented Crewe at Under-21 level, whilst also training with us full-time.

Steve Davis and his coaching staff felt that the 19-year-old deserved an extended chance to prove that he can progress in the professional game.

Unfortunately, John has recently had his pre-season interrupted with a bout of tonsillitis and conjunctivitis.

Everyone at Crewe would like to congratulate John on his new deal and wish him continued success at Gresty Road.
