Davis still holding out for the right quality of player
Steve Davis admits that he is bound to hit some ‘brick walls' when it comes to signing players in pre-season. The Alex boss is waiting patiently to sign the right type of player and will resist signing numbers just for the sake of it.
He has targeted another midfielder, a natural winger and a striker ahead of the new season but Davis says he doesn’t particularly mind if they arrive in August as long as they are the right signings.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Sometimes you make some progress and at other times you hit a brick wall.
“We have made some ground on some targets but it is still very much a waiting game. We know what we want and will remain patient to get the quality of player we want.
“Some of the players want to stay at their clubs and have their pre-season there. It is not until the season kicks off and they are not playing that a whole host of players will come available. They will prefer to come out and play instead of being in the reserves or Under-21 for the next six months.
“It is a like a game at the moment and we will wait. I don’t mind if they come in August if they are the ones we get to make a difference to us. If we can get one or two quality players then that would give us a lift.
The boss added: “We will prepare the group as normal and will integrate them as and when they come in. Good players will settle into the system fairly quickly so I am not worried about that.”
