George Cooper catches the eye with mature pre-season performances


Whilst promising forward Callum Saunders may have caught the eye with his flying header at Nantwich Town on Sunday, Steve Davis did highlight the performance of the youngest performer in the second half at the Weaver Stadium. George Cooper may not have been as spectacular in his performance in what was an unnatural position for him at left-back but Davis and his coaching staff were pleased with the 17-year-olds temperament and composure in possession.

Steve said after the 4-1 win at Nantwich: ”I thought young George did well at left-back. It isn’t his natural position. We just put him in there so he can work on his defending. He is really a winger and he has a lot of quality for someone so young.


“His composure was good and he didn’t give the ball away. He is a quality player and he will hopefully became a really good first-team player for us in the future. He has a bright future ahead of him and he just has to keep working as hard as he is doing.”
