Chris: "Crewe Suits My Style"

23 July 2014

Chris Atkinson is pleased to have signed for the Railwaymen after impressing on trial

Chris Atkinson is hoping to repay the faith Crewe Alexandra and especially manager Steve Davis has shown in him by adding goals from midfield. The 22-year-old signed a two-year deal prior to our friendly with Macclesfield Town last night and was delighted to have his future resolved following his release from Huddersfield this summer.

Chris told the club’s official web-site: “I am delighted to sign the deal and I can’t wait for the season to start now. The pre-season games are important for your fitness but there is nothing like going out there on a Saturday afternoon for a league game and having that buzz of competitive football.

“I knew of Crewe’s interest a couple of weeks ago and came in on a four day trial. I then played at Chester on Saturday and managed to get a goal so that was a bonus. Coming on trial and trying to impress has that added pressure attached to it, but you have to be mentally strong and come through the situation.

“I have come to Crewe because I have sat down and spoke with the gaffer about my game and what he wants from me. We are on the same wave length when it comes to the method of football and I was delighted to sign here. I had other interest but felt the way Crewe play suits my game.

"They like to get the ball down and play and as a ball playing midfield player that is what you want to hear and then see. There is a good group of young players here and it is looking good for us to have a good season.”

“The gaffer wants me to use my energy and stamina to get around the pitch and get forward."
