Davis says Aneke's style of play will suit European football

Steve Davis feels that a move to the Belgian league will suit Chuks Aneke’s style of play. The former Arsenal starlet, who spent two very successful years on loan at Crewe Alexandra surprised everyone by signing with Belgian Juplier Pro League Zulte Waregem last month.

Aneke topped the Crewe goalscoring charts with 16 goals last term and Crewe were eager to see if they could tempt the deep lying forward to remain with the club on a more permanent basis.

The 20-year did have other options to remain in this country but Davis says a move to the continent may suit him.

Steve told crewealex.net: “From a personal point of view I am thankful that most of the players who have left us in the summer have managed to get themselves fixed up.

“Sometimes if a player isn’t able to play as many games as they would like then they need to find that new challenge. They all served the club well and I wish them well.

“I spoke to Chuks and his agent and they knew we were interested in him. His agent knew that he had to find a club who would suit his style of play. I knew they were looking at the continent and different leagues. They mentioned France, Belgium and Italy to me and I wasn’t surprised that he has moved to Belgian.

“The club he has signed for had (Eden) Hazard’s brother there on loan and he has now gone back to Chelsea, so Chuks is coming in to fill that number 10 role.

The boss added: “I am sure the experience will help him progress. The continental game will suit him with its slower build up and I am sure he will come back to this country at some point as an even better player.”
