French defender impresses against Wolves
Steve Davis hailed Thierry Audel’s pre-season performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers as his ‘best yet in a Crewe shirt’.
The former Macclesfield Town full-back, who spent much of last season on loan at Lincoln City produced a solid display in the club’s 1-0 defeat to last years’ League One champions. Audel even showed his versatility by switching to his more accustomed centre-half position when Adam Dugdale was withdrawn in the second half.
The Crewe boss was pleased with the Frenchman’s assured performance on Saturday and has encouraged the 27-year-old to keep on improving.
He said: “I said to Thierry after the game that I thought it was his best performance in a Crewe shirt. This is a great opportunity for him and he has been getting some game time in pre-season.
“If he continues to play like he did on Saturday then he could really help us out this season. He could be a really useful player for us because he looked strong, quick and was good throughout.
“He is eager to learn and get better and he just has to keep it going.”
