Alex enter significant stage of the season

Crewe Alexandra are about to embark on a crucial part of the season starting with the MK Dons this evening. Following tonight’s home clash with Karl Robinson’s play-off hopefuls, the Railwaymen then face significant fixtures against fellow strugglers Tranmere, Stevenage and Sheffield United in successive matches.

Steve Davis has been pleased with recent performances and understandably feels that his improving side have not gained as many points as we have probably deserved. The Alex boss says the improvement in our displays going back to the turning point against Port Vale in November has given us a fighting chance to escape the drop. A victory tonight would see the Alex exit the bottom four.

Ahead of a busy period for the Alex, the Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “We have some very significant fixtures coming up. We know that on their day the MK Dons can be as good as anyone in this division and then we have Tranmere, Stevenage and Sheffield United. It will important to take points from teams in and around us.

“The MK Dons will be looking to get points to take them into the top six. They are just outside of that and have been on a good run of late, so Karl will be looking for more positive results.

“We have been a lot better though since the Port Vale game. The team have been playing well and we just have to turn results around.

He added: “I was confident going into the Leyton Orient game on Saturday, who are top of the league, with this group of players, so I am not going to change. If we can play like we did at Rotherham and against Leyton Orient, and as we had been doing over Christmas then we will pick up results.”
