Toots Targets Better Half

Matt Tootle says Crewe must impove on first half showing

Crewe Alexandra’s most consistent performer of the season, Matt Tootle, is hoping that the club can take their recent good form into the second half of the season. A positive festive period has seen the in-form Alex suffer just one defeat in the last six outings and that came away at title chasing Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

The Railwaymen bounced back from that 2-0 defeat to register back-to-back wins over Colchester and Carlisle for the first time since October and Tootle feels there is something to build on going into the second half of the season.

Tootle told crewealex.net:
“Getting a couple of good results on the bounce and a bit of good form has done the team the world of good. Now we have to carry that on into the next game and over the next few months.

“We have recently managed to get back-to-back wins and that is something that we haven’t really had this season. There are still plenty of points to play for and although we aren’t where we want to be in the league, we know there is time to turn it around.

“Everyone is working hard to turn it around and make sure we get ourselves out of it and into the safety of mid-table. Our aim was to get closer to doing that and I think we have achieved that over Christmas. Now we have got to push on.

Toots added: “We have reached the half way stage in the season now and we all need to make sure that we get a much better return in terms of points in the second half of the season than we did in the first.”
