Tootle annoyed by our Achilles Heel this season
away defeat of the season at Prenton Park after Matthew Pennington pulled off at the far post to head home a Jason Koumas corner.thThe club’s new club captain Matt Tootle says that Crewe need to improve defending set-pieces if we are to move up the League One table. The Alex suffered their 9
It proved to be the only goal of the game as Crewe failed to take advantage of results in the battle to remain in League One. Tootle, who has recently replaced Abdul Osman as captain, says that it was a chance lost and that we have to bounce back soon.
Tootle told Crewe Alex Player: "The Tranmere game as a six-pointer and it is hard to take because I didn't feel they were better than us. It seems to be one step forward and two back.
“It was a big game because with the other fixtures going on, I thought that if we could have won then we would have moved up a few places, so it was a chance lost from that perspective, so we will just have to go again.
“The set-pieces have let us down. Everyone looks at the stats and can see that we have conceded 54 goals but I would imagine 20 of them have come from set-pieces. They have been our Achilles Heel this season and they have let us down again. We work on them all the time but we need to be better.
“Stevenage is not ideal on a Tuesday night but it is the same for both teams, we have to go there and really battle. We have to show real character there because they won’t lie down, their mentality is to work for the manager because he has instilled that into them.
He added: “We won't take them lightly especially after what they did to us at home, we were struggling then but that game was the worst.”
