Timely boost as Mathias returns for Millers test
Crewe Alexandra may have narrowly missed out on re-signing Tom Hitchcock on loan this week but on a more positive note, this weekend’s trip to Rotherham could well see Mathias Pogba travel for the first-team this season.
Steve Davis is yet to decide whether to include the returning Pogba in his squad to face the Millers, but the powerful forward is fit and available for selection for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury against Manchester United in pre-season.
Pogba has trained fully this week and has had suffered no set-back in his rehabilitation after working tirelessly with head physio Rob Sharp and conditioning coach Andy Franks over the past five and half months.
Pogba scored 16 goals last season to top our goalscoring charts and he recently signed a new contract with the club.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Mathias is training and has been involved for a while. He is fit but not match fit after missing a lot of football. He was disappointed that our Cheshire Senior Cup game against Northwich was postponed on Tuesday because he was looking forward to some game time.
“We were looking to give him 40/45 minutes against Northwich but we weren’t able to do that. Saying that he has been able to play in some full-sided training games and do some running. We have been pleased with his progress and he could well be involved tomorrow. “
