Pogs Has Been A Huge Loss

7 January 2014

Boss pleased to have key man back from injury

Steve Davis is hopeful that Mathias Pogba can put a frustrating time on the sidelines firmly behind him by playing a key role for the club in the second half of the season. The club have been without last season’s leading scorer for the entire campaign after he suffered a serious knee injury against Manchester United in pre-season.

It was a major blow for the former Wrexham man, as he had also previously missed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final and the tail end of last season after he tore a thigh muscle against Preston a week before the Wembley showcase. Pogba still finished the season as top scorer with an impressive 16 goals in all competitions and Davis says his loss through injury has been difficult to replace.

Steve told “Mathias has been a huge loss for us. There is no hiding from that because every club would miss their leading goalscorer. We have found it hard to replace those goals and him coming back from injury will be like a new signing.

“We have been cautious with him because we want him to be right. We want to go back out there and stay out there. He isn’t going to be match fit for a while because he has missed a lot of football but it is great to have him back.

“He is great to have him back and with someone like Mathias, who is all or nothing in games, it is hard to hold him back because he always wants to give his all.”

Mathias Pogba is set to feature for the club in tonight’s Cheshire Senior Cup tie against Northwich Victoria at Flixton’s ground in Greater Manchester. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
