Anthony's hard work beginning to pay off
Steve Davis says that more hard working performances from Anthony Grant will only see the midfielder play an important role between now and the end of the season. A one-match suspension for George Evans against Carlisle United provided Grant with a recall to the starting line-up for the first time since the FA Cup replay against Wycombe Wanderers.
The 26-year-old certainly grabbed his opportunity with both hands, producing an all-action display to help the club to a deserved 2-1 win over Carlisle United. Grant’s determination as a ball winner nearly saw him having to leave the field with a facial injury in the first half, but the former Southend and Stevenage man dusted himself down to complete a hard 90 minutes.
The Alex boss was delighted with the contribution of the former Chelsea trainee on New Years’ Day.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Anthony worked hard for the cause and has got himself going again. We sometimes worry about his discipline on the pitch and what I mean by that is him keeping the shape but he did that against Carlisle. His covering and competitiveness was there and he passed the ball when he could. I was pleased with Anthony and pleased for him.
He added: “We know what he is capable of and that is why we were eager to bring him in the summer. If he can play like that then he can have an important part to play for us.”
