Boss hoping to keep Hitch and Chuks together after hitting form at right time

Steve Davis is hopeful that Tom Hitchcock will be allowed to return for a second loan spell with the club after developing a successful partnership with the in-form Chuks Aneke. Hitchcock returned to his parent Queens Park Rangers this week and was in their travelling squad that faced Everton in the FA Cup last weekend.

Crewe are hopeful that the Championship club would be willing to allow Hitchcock to re-join the club on loan, perhaps until the end of the season. The partnership of Chuks and Hitch has seen them score seven goals in six games and as a consequence ignite a mini-revival over the festive period. Crewe have lost one in six games.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Tom came in and scored some goals which was exactly what we needed at the time. It will become clearer in next few days. We have got a game coming up on Saturday (at Rotherham) and if we can get him in before that then that would be a huge boost. It's always out of our hands to a certain degree. It's up to Queens Park Rangers.

“Tom thoroughly enjoyed his time here and I think he’d benefit from coming back. He hasn’t played a lot of competitive football and has been in and around perimeter of the team at QPR.

He added: “I don’t think you can beat competitive football, that's how you learn the game. We’d like to take him until the end of the season because his partnership with Chuks is only going to get better. They just clicked together and it would be a shame to break that up. “
