Sahun Miller and John Brayford to return with Sheffield United

Former Crewe Alexandra players Shaun Miller and John Brayford will return to the Alexandra Stadium tomorrow in the colours of Sheffield United. Both players were terrific servants of the club with Brayford winning the player-of-the-season award in 2010 before moving to Derby and Miller being a part of our promotion winning side two years later.

Manager Steve Davis says he is looking forward to meeting up with our old boys and hopes that both are selected to face their former side to only enhance the occasion. Miller has recently returned from a serious knee injury and Brayford is currently on loan at Bramall Lane from Cardiff City.

Ahead of the game, Steve told crewealex.net: “I was a bit surprised that John dropped into League One but that shows the character of him. He has shown great loyalty to his former manager, Nigel Clough, the man who arguably got him to where he is today.

“John was a great professional and worked hard every day in training. He was a great player for us and I am surprised that he hasn’t been given a chance at Cardiff because I think he is good enough for the Premier League. I am sure that he has just had a blip in his career and that he will come good again.

“He wants to play games and Cloughie can get the best out of him. I think his best position is right back but he can also play at centre-half as well. He is a winner and plays with a great determination. He is a great lad.

“As is Shaun (Miller). We had a conversation when he wasn’t playing and we both agreed that he needed a fresh challenge, so when a club like Sheffield United came in for him it was a great move for him. We didn’t stand in his way because he had been with us since he was a kid.

The boss added: “Shaun has had a bad injury but it is good to see him back in action. I hope they both play and it will be good to see them at the game.”
