Keeper Move On Hold

Nothing concrete on new goalkeeper arriving following Etheridge set-back

Steve Davis has revealed that ‘there is nothing concrete to consider’ when it comes to bringing in a new goalkeeper on loan. The Alex boss is looking to bring in a more experienced and established goalkeeper into the club to take some of the pressure of youngster Ben Garratt, but after his number one target Neil Etheridge suffered a slight set-back in relation to his thigh injury, he hasn’t been given the green light in his approaches for another.

The Crewe boss will continue to search for another goalkeeper for the crucial run-in but he says he doesn’t expect anything to happen anytime soon. Etheridge returned to his parent club Fulham prematurely after aggravating his thigh with his final clearance up field against Crawley. He suffered a recurrence in training which has prevented him coming out on loan.

Steve has looked at other possible options but doesn’t expect anything to materialise until next week.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Neil has suffered a slight set-back with his quad so we have discussed other options.

“We don’t have anything concrete in regards to a goalkeeper and I don’t expect anything to happen in time for the game this weekend. It is something that is on-going and we hope to make some progress next week.”
