Steve still eager to bring stopper in but may look to offload a few players first

Steve Davis says he would still like to bring in a new goalkeeper but would like to offload some of his squad first.

The Alex boss is working hard to trim his numbers and has already decided to cancel the contracts of Michael West and Gregor Robertson and has allowed Thierry Audel to join Torquay United on a short trial.

The Crewe boss still has three goalkeepers on his books and is currently selecting youngster Ben Garratt as his number one.

Crewe are still interested in the possibility of re-taking Neil Etheridge on loan from Fulham but he has suffered a slight set-back in his recovery from a thigh injury and won’t be ready until the end of the month.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I have spoken to various managers about the situation in regards to the goalkeepers they may have available. We don’t particularly want an inexperienced one because that wouldn’t be right on Ben.

“I would like to do something in the window but I might have to get one or two out first before I get someone in.

“We are still keeping up-to-date with Neil’s situation but it could be the end of the month before he is going to be right.”
