Garratt tells Player abot his fantastic penalty save to help us overcome the MK Dons
Modest penalty hero Ben Garratt was just pleased that his fantastic save from MK Dons’ Shaun Williams secured Crewe Alexandra three points in mid-week. The young goalkeeper made a terrific save from the usually consistent penalty-taker Williams with the score evenly poised 1-0. After the penalty save, the Railwaymen went on to grab another goal through AJ Leitch-Smith with the three points taking us out of the relegation zone.
Ben told Crewe Alex Player: “The win was massive for us. It took us out of the relegation zone and we were very pleased with the performance and the result.
“We made a slow start but found our way into the game and everyone played well. It wasn’t ideal conditions but I thought both teams played well considering and it was a good game.
“The lads have been playing reasonably well of late and improving and when you think you have played well and not got a result you are naturally disappointed but you just have to keep going and I thought we got our rewards on Tuesday.”
And on his game-changing save that seemed to lift the players and the Alex crowd to another level, the England youth goalkeeper said: “You just try and learn from past experiences of facing penalties. I had some information about him as a taker and you have to go with a bit of instinct as well. Thankfully I have guessed right and managed to save it.
“It was a great feeling on a personal level but the most important thing was the team went on to claim the three points. I was just pleased that I played a part in helping us achieve that. The worked team worked hard to keep that clean-sheet and get those points.”
