"I Just Kicked It"

3 January 2014

Modest Chuks explains his wonder goal to Player

Chuks Aneke is determined to put a disappointing first half of the season behind him and the team and focus on making the second half a lot more enjoyable. The in-form Aneke has now scored six goals for the season and has established a successful partnership with fellow loanee Tom Hitchcock. The strikers have played a key role in helping the club pick up eight points over the festive period and make our league position look a bit healthier.

Aneke, who scored a contender for goal of the season with the outside of his boot against Carlisle on New Years’ Days told Crewe Alex player: “We have been shocking in the first half of the season really but the team is playing a lot better now. We just want that to continue and for the confidence to keep on building because we have a good team here and a good bunch of lads.

“Things didn’t go for us in the first part of the season for whatever reason and that is myself as an individual and as a team, but we have been pleased with our performances and results over the last few weeks and long may that continue.

“I just want to help the team pick up points and if I can score goals to do that then that is even better. I have worked hard on my fitness levels and hopefully that is beginning to pay off now. My fitness levels have improved and I just want the games to come around. I would have liked to play again Saturday but we haven’t got a fixture.”

On his wonderful strike against Carlisle the modest Arsenal youngster: “It was a bit of a blur really. I just kicked it and it went in!

“I thought it was a good goal at the time with the outside of my boot and I was just pleased that it went in and we managed to get the three points.”
