Goalkeeper Will Be Loaned In

31 January 2014

Steve says a stopper will come in on loan in the next few weeks after Alan Martin's departure

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he would like to add an experienced goalkeeper to his squad to assist his youngster Ben Garratt. If a deal can be concluded on deadline remains to be seen but the Crewe Alexandra boss is keen to bring in another goalkeeper on loan to provide competition and cover for his current number one.

Football League clubs are permitted to bring in players on loan after a seven-day period.

With Alan Martin departing the club by mutual consent on Monday, Davis feels that he is a goalkeeper short going into the final few months of the season.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Alan leaving the club has left us a goalkeeper short. We have two goalkeepers and young Robbie Johnson but I would like to bring another one in.

“We have Under-21 games to fulfil and we will try to bring in another goalkeeper. I would like an experienced goalkeeper who can offer competition to Ben and Steve. We will try and do that. If that will be concluded before the window closes I’m not so sure, but we can still bring players in on emergency loan after a week.

He added: “We will certainly look at things again once the window re-opens. The Window usually involves Premier League and Championship clubs who want to conclude permanent deals. There can be a few loan deals in the lower leagues but not many permanent deal take place in the window. We prefer to bring in on our own signings in the summer when we can take our time.”
