Defender on the comeback trail after head injury
Adam Dugdale is to step up his training this week and make himself available for selection again away at Rotherham United this weekend. Dugdale suffered a horrific head injury against Shrewsbury Town just before Christmas and needed oxygen when leaving the field at Gresty Road.
The Liverpool-born defender has a hazy memory of the incident but the club’s medical staff has revealed that he was begging them to allow him to stay on after he had come around again after a few minutes!
Dugdale’s replacement Mark Ellis has stepped into the team and helped the club to victories over Colchester and Carlisle, so Dugdale knows he faces another tough challenge to regain his place at centre-half.
After suffering concussion in the incident against the Shrews, Dugdale wasn’t allowed to face Wolves due to Football League regulations and boss Steve Davis gave his defender an extended rest as the club started 2014 due to him being unable to train.
