Crewe Miss Out On Hitch

Tom set to sign elsewhere after Alex narrowly miss out on re-signing him

Crewe Alexandra is set to miss out on re-signing Tom Hitchcock on loan with the Queens Park Rangers forward set to join another Football League club instead. Hitchcock scored three goals in six appearances whilst on loan at the Alexandra Stadium and was beginning to form a successful partnership with Chuks Aneke.

Steve Davis is disappointed to miss out on a player who helped us enjoy a successful festive period but accepts that is the loan market.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “I spoke to Tom every day to keep him involved and up to date with everything. We also had dialogue with Queens Park Rangers and had agreed for him to go back early by a few days so he could join up with their first-team squad for their FA Cup tie with Everton.

“We thought we were in with a chance with him and Tom was always positive about his time here, so to lose him to another club is disappointing but it can happen. That is the loan market and you just have to accept it and look elsewhere.

“Tom was terrific for us and a good lad and we are sorry to see him go but that is football. We can’t really control what other clubs do. He is their player and what they do with him is only their business.

“We move on and will re-visit our list of targets.”
