Club's new head of recruitment arrives to improve incoming transfers
Crewe Alexandra is delighted to welcome Chris Johnson as the club’s new head of recruitment. Johnson will work closely with fellow recruitment officer Phil Swift to cover a wide age range of potential players. Johnson’s expertise will focus on players from 18s upwards and he will also be scouting for potential first-team players.
Johnson has worked for Russell Slade at both Yeovil and Leyton Orient and has been with the O’s for the past seven years. He is local to the area and has close links to Staffordshire and Cheshire, having built up an impressive list of contacts.
The club interviewed a number of applicants before appointed Johnson to oversee our recruitment drive as part of the relatively new Elite Players Performance Plan.
Steve Davis is delighted with the club’s new appointment: “We have appointed Chris as our new head of recruitment and he will work closely with Phil (Swift) to cover a wide range of players from youth level up to the first team. They will co-ordinate that together and it is a big job but one that Chris is looking forward to.
“Chris’ job will be to scout players from 18s upwards and he comes with great experience and a large number of contacts. He will develop a substantial data-base of players, so that we are fully aware of everyone who may be available to improve our squad, and if there are any gaps coming up through the Academy then it will be his brief to fill in those gaps.
“Chris worked for Leyton Orient for many years and their recruitment has been very good, as you can see by what they have achieved over recent years. We interviewed a number of applications but felt we went with the best option due to his experience and knowledge of the area.
"We are sure he will fit in easily with what we do here and he knows the DNA of the players we are after." He added:
