John Johnston on what it feels like to be back in the professional game
John Johnston has described his move to Crewe Alexandra as the ‘best moment in his life’ thus far. The Leek winger has signed a short-term deal with the club to try and impress further and earn himself an extended contract in the summer. The 19-year-old will return to Leek on loan to help them in their quest to earn promotion, but will continue to train with Crewe to enhance his physical development.
Johnny exclusively told Crewe Alex Player: “This is a big moment for me. It is arguably the best moment of my life. I was at Stoke and released so you think that the chance has passed you by, but it is great for it to come back and have that second chance.
“I was at Stoke from 7 but was released at 14 for being too small. I went to Kidsgrove and worked my way into the first team there and then got a move to Leek.
“It has been a great season at Leek and it’s a good atmosphere there. I will go back to Leek on loan because we have a chance of winning promotion so we’ll see what happens.
“Coming to Crewe is a real test. The standard is obviously a lot higher but all I can do is work hard to get there. I feel fitter and stronger already and that is only after a few weeks, so I know I will develop as a player here.”
